Providing for your heirs…
Your estate should be an asset for your heirs, not a burden. Unfortunately, given an arcane legal framework and an abundance of cheap and conflicting advice, it is easy to achieve the opposite of what one wishes.
Beware also the overspecialization you find in large law firms. Most people don’t need a team of attorneys, each of whom know primarily one aspect of estate law. Rather, you probably need someone who has comprehensive knowledge of the available options and will take a holistic interest in your situation.
We can help you select and craft the right legal instruments to help you control what happens to your estate after your passing. For most people, this means keeping your assets within the family to the extent possible, but it can mean more. It can mean making personal bequests, choosing a guardian, minimizing conflict among heirs, or making sure your assets are wisely used.
We handle all elder law issues and can help you with medical directives, medical power of attorney, special powers of attorney, durable power of attorney, etc.
Our Trust and Estate practice is led by Lane Gabeler-Millner and Charles Davenport.
Oh yes, don’t forget to provide for the pets.
Do you really need a will?
